October 2026<\/strong>: Arabian Gulf Steel Industries, AGSI, the UAE\u2019s \u200elargest private steelmaker and recycler, has achieved the lowest verified carbon footprint \u200efor rebar, marking a major step for low-carbon construction materials produced in the \u200eUAE.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>AGSI\u2019s reinforcing bar produced in Abu Dhabi has a verified cradle-to-gate carbon \u200efootprint of 139 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent per tonne, well below the typical 600 to \u200e\u200e700 kg per tonne for scrap-based rebar. Its Sharjah operations record 218 kg CO\u2082e per \u200etonne. Both figures are also below the nearest comparable publicly available EPD figure \u200eof 300 kg CO\u2082e per tonne.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>The achievement was announced at Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, KEZAD Group \u200eheadquarters, in the presence of Mohamed Al Khadar Al Ahmed, CEO, Khalifa \u200eEconomic Zones Abu Dhabi \u2013 KEZAD Group, Asam Hussain, Founder and CEO of \u200eArabian Gulf Steel Industries, and Ayhan Tugrul, Chief Operating Officer of CARES.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>The announcement brings together AGSI\u2019s manufacturing capability, the independent \u200everification provided under the CARES EPD programme and KEZAD\u2019s industrial \u200einfrastructure. It also supports the growing use of verified product-level carbon data \u200eacross the construction sector, where developers, contractors, consultants and \u200eregulators increasingly need clear information on embodied carbon.\u200e<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asam Hussain, Founder and CEO of Arabian Gulf Steel Industries<\/strong>, said: \u201cThis is a \u200edefining achievement for AGSI and for the UAE steel industry. Verified, product-specific data of this kind is what allows designers, \u200econtractors and asset owners to make sound decisions on embodied carbon rather than \u200erelying on generic industry averages. It also strengthens Abu Dhabi\u2019s position as a \u200egrowing centre for advanced industrial production and lower-carbon construction \u200ematerials.\u201d\u200e<\/p>\n<p>Both AGSI results cover production from raw materials to the factory gate and have \u200ebeen independently verified against recognised international standards. The full \u200eEnvironmental Product Declarations, EPDs, are available on the CARES website. For a \u200efair comparison, EPDs must use the same rules, measurement method and production \u200eboundaries. The figures quoted here have been compared on that basis.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>Embodied carbon is the carbon linked to a material across its life cycle. It is becoming an \u200eimportant requirement in major construction and infrastructure projects. EPDs give \u200ebuyers and project teams a verified and consistent way to assess and compare the \u200eenvironmental impact of products.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>AGSI\u2019s latest result builds on its 2024 carbon-neutral plant milestone under PAS 2060. It \u200enow extends that performance to the product level. AGSI uses 100% locally recycled \u200escrap and a fully electrified production process.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>AGSI\u2019s verified low-carbon rebar gives the market a local material option that supports \u200equality, supply reliability and carbon reporting needs.
